Combo Los Yogas was a short-lived early Colombian salsa band from Medellín directed and arranged by Aníbal José Ángel Echeverri, the famous antioqueño keyboardist known as Aníbal Ángel or simply Anán.
Employing Barranquilla native Johnny Moré as his lead vocalist and a full combo with trumpet, trombone, congas and timbales, Los Yogas recorded a fantastic collection of cover tunes in the guaguancó, son, guajira, descarga, and cha-cha-chá rhythms.

The sound is very raw and hard, something that makes this obscure 1968 Discos Fuentes record a sought-after collector’s item. Thanks to the inherent quality and execution of its repertoire, “Cañabrava” provides a wonderful snapshot of the influences and early development of the genre of salsa in 1960s Colombia.

Combo Los Yogas fue una banda de salsa colombiana de corta vida formada en Medellín y dirigida por Áníbal José Ángel Echeverri, el famoso teclista antioqueño conocido como Aníbal Ángel o simplemente Anán. Contando con Johnny Moré como vocalista principal y una formación con trompeta, trombón, congas y timbales, Los Yogas grabaron una fantástica colección de versiones en ritmos guaguancó, son, guajira, descarga y cha-cha-chá.

El sonido del disco es duro y crudo, algo que convierte a este oscuro LP de Discos Fuentes en una pieza muy buscada entre coleccionistas. Gracias a la calidad inherente y a la ejecución de su repertorio, “Cañabrava” proporciona una fabulosa instantánea de las influencias y
el desarrollo inicial del género de la salsa en Colombia.

Another golden compilation from AA! Great introduction to Afro-Colombian psychedelia via the Discos Machuca back catalogue. These songs are full of infectious percussion, trance-inducing rhythms, sun-soaked melodies, and hauntingly beautiful vocals. Hard to pick a favourite song, but I've played side D the most. j j headington
