En 1967, Disperú encargó a Toño Reyes la formación de una banda a la que bautizó como Toño y sus Sicodélicos. Para este disco, interpretaron una serie de canciones que reflejaban las últimas tendencias en la música tropical pero tocadas con su estilo particular. “Mister Boogaloo” combina las influencias recibidas de artistas como el mexicano Leo Acosta o de la escena neoyorquina de boogaloo.
