Based out of Richmond, Virginia, Bio Ritmo started in 1991 as an experimental percussion ensemble which soon decided to expand its instrumentation, thus creating a fully-fledged salsa orchestra.
The members of Bio Ritmo represent a new generation of 'salseros' and are recognized around the globe for their innovative songwriting and for pioneering the 'indie' salsa movement. This movement aspires to not only preserve the roots of salsa but to contribute to the evolution of the music by incorporating new sounds, rhythms and influences from around the world.
Over the last 23 years, the ten-member Bio Ritmo has performed throughout the US, Puerto Rico, Canada and Europe. They have independently released 10 albums and have been featured on several compilation albums.
Their albums have been featured in the iTunes top ten best Tropical albums of the year and recent publications such as Wax Poetics, Latin Beat Magazine and Spain's Enlace Funk magazine have spotlighted Bio Ritmo, further strengthening the band's reputation as one of the most original and forward thinking bands in the modern salsa music movement.

Bio Ritmo empezó en 1991 en Richmond, Virginia como un grupo de percusión experimental que pronto decidió expandir su instrumentación hasta convertirse en una orquesta de salsa.
Los miembros de Bio Ritmo representan una nueva generación de salseros y son reconocidos en todo el mundo por su innovador estilo y por ser pioneros del movimiento "indie" dentro de la salsa. Este movimiento aspira no solo a conservar las raíces de la salsa sino también a contribuir a la evolución del género al incorporar sonidos y ritmos nuevos e influencias de todo el mundo.
Durante los últimos 23 años, los diez miembros de Bio Ritmo han actuado por todo Estados Unidos, Puerto Rico, Canadá y Europa. Han publicado diez álbumes de manera independiente y han participado en varios recopilatorios.
Sus álbumes han aparecido destacados en el Top 10 anual de música tropical de iTunes y publicaciones como Wax Poetics, Latin Beat Magazine y Enlace Funk han hablado del grupo como una de las bandas más originales e innovadoras dentro del movimiento de salsa moderna.

Another golden compilation from AA! Great introduction to Afro-Colombian psychedelia via the Discos Machuca back catalogue. These songs are full of infectious percussion, trance-inducing rhythms, sun-soaked melodies, and hauntingly beautiful vocals. Hard to pick a favourite song, but I've played side D the most. j j headington
