Primera reedición de “Sabroso Bacalao” de Adolfo Echeverría y su Orquesta, publicado en Colombia por Discos Fuentes en 1977.

Grabado con el exitoso equipo de productores formado por Isaac Villanueva y Hernán Colorado, y el protagonismo vocal compartido entre Adolfo, Freddy Cruz y Manuel Cassiani, este es un álbum de gran variedad estilística que incluye el enérgico piano de Hugo Molinares, compositor también del enorme tema de guaguancó ‘Sabroso bacalao’.

Junto a temas calientes de salsa dura, el LP incluye también cumbia y porro además de cortes de oriza afro-cubano y cumbelé, una variante de la bomba, el género percusivo afro-puertorriqueño.

El disco cosechó originalmente el éxito ‘Fantasía marina’, pero más recientemente ‘Noches de cumbia’ y ‘Sabroso bacalao’ se han convertido en clásicos para las pistas de baile entre los DJs de la escena tropical en todo el mundo, haciendo de este disco un indispensable para coleccionistas, disk jockeys y aficionados al sonido clásico de Fuentes.

First ever reissue of “Sabroso bacalao” by Adolfo Echeverría y su Orquesta, released on Colombia’s Discos Fuentes in 1977.

Recorded with the hit production team of Isaac Villanueva and Hernán Colorado, and with vocal duties shared between Adolfo, Freddy Cruz and Manuel Cassiani, this is a diverse genre-hopping album featuring the fiery piano of Hugo Molinares, who also composed the monster guaguancó track ‘Sabroso bacalao’.

In addition to hot, driving hardcore salsa tracks, the LP includes some cumbia and porro plus cuts in the Afro-Cuban oriza rhythm and the cumbelé style, which is a variant on the bomba, an Afro-Puerto Rican folkloric drum-based genre.

The album yielded the hit ‘Fantasía marina’, but in recent years ‘Noches de cumbia’ and the title track have become tropical DJ dance floor standards across the globe, making this record a must-have for collectors, disk jockeys and aficionados of the classic Fuentes sound.

Another golden compilation from AA! Great introduction to Afro-Colombian psychedelia via the Discos Machuca back catalogue. These songs are full of infectious percussion, trance-inducing rhythms, sun-soaked melodies, and hauntingly beautiful vocals. Hard to pick a favourite song, but I've played side D the most. j j headington
