The shop Record Mart, one of Latin New York's most important historic musical landmarks, served as the home base for Montuno Records, a small but important independent label started by proprietor Jesse Moskowitz in the 1970s. This collection samples the recordings from Montuno's catalogue that exemplify danceable Afro-Antillean music, from Nuyorican salsa to Haitian compas, Latin jazz to traditional Cuban genres as well as several interesting hybrids incorporating funk, doo wop and Brazilian sounds.

La tienda Record Mart, uno de los enclaves musicales más importantes del Nueva York latino, sirvió como base para Montuno Records, una pequeña pero importante discográfica fundada por el propietario de Record Mart, Jesse Moskowitz, en los años 70. Esta colección es una muestra de las grabaciones del catálogo de Montuno que abarca desde Nuyorican salsa a compás haitiano, jazz latino y géneros tradicionales cubanos, y varios híbridos fascinantes que incorporan elementos de funk, doo-wop y sonidos brasileños
